One of the best known modern Jewish personalities from Northampton is the actress Lesley Joseph (b. 1946), who played Dorien in 'Birds of a Feather' fame. Now a resident of Clapham, she attends Wimbledon Reform Synagogue , and each year at the end of High Holy Days at the synagogue, such is her standing, it may be observed that an official line forms to greet the rabbi at the door on one side, and another unofficial line, forms at the other side, for friends and well-wishers to greet her.
Lesley still maintains links to Northampton and attends the synagogue from time to time where the quality of her readings in services is appreciated.
She was awarded an honorary MA, by Northampton University in 1999.
